The short version
Your recordings and notes live on your iPhone. To turn a recording into a note, Cleriq sends the audio to AssemblyAI to be transcribed, and the transcript to Anthropic’s Claude to write the summary. Our own server passes this work along and keeps none of it. If you share a note by link, our server holds a locked copy that only the link can open.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your recordings, transcripts and notes are stored on your iPhone, for as long as the keep setting you choose.
- If Cleriq can’t reach the cloud (you’re offline, not signed in, or you’ve used your plan’s hours), it makes a draft transcript on your iPhone with Apple’s speech recognition, so you can read the meeting straight away. There’s no live transcript while you record.
- Sorting what the summary raises, and linking each point back to the moment it was said, also happens on your iPhone.
What leaves your iPhone, and where it goes
When a recording or a file becomes a note:
- The audio is uploaded to private storage on our host, Vercel. AssemblyAI reads it through a link that expires within an hour. The audio is deleted as soon as transcription finishes, and anything left behind is removed within an hour.
- The transcript comes back from AssemblyAI with speakers labelled. It’s deleted from AssemblyAI as soon as your iPhone confirms it has it, and any your iPhone never confirms are deleted within the hour. We use a paid AssemblyAI account with its model-training opt-out turned on, so your audio isn’t used to train their models.
- Names and terms you confirm in the app are sent to AssemblyAI with the audio, so it spells them right.
- The summary is written by Anthropic’s Claude from the transcript. Anthropic never uses what we send, or what Claude writes back, for training. It may keep both for up to 30 days before deleting them, and content its safety systems flag, or that the law requires it to keep, for up to 2 years. It also keeps its safety classifier results.
- Typed notes, and text, PDFs or transcripts you upload, skip transcription: only their text goes to Claude for the summary.
Anything you share or export from a note goes wherever you send it.
If you’re offline, you’ll see the draft transcript made on your iPhone. The rest runs when you’re back online.
Sharing a note by link
You can share a note as a link that opens in any web browser. Nothing is shared unless you make a link, and making one needs you to be signed in, because links belong to your account.
- What the link shows: the note’s title, date, summary and next steps. For each highlighted decision, action, open question, risk and goal, it also shows the transcript lines it quotes, with who said them and when. It doesn’t include the audio or the full transcript.
- Locked on your iPhone: Cleriq encrypts the note on your iPhone before it’s uploaded, with a new key for each link. The key is the part of the link after the “#”, which browsers never send to any server. Our server keeps only the locked copy, so neither we nor anyone who broke into our server could read it.
- Anyone with the link can read it. There’s no sign-in or password, so share it only with people you’d show the note to. The link shows the note as it was when you shared it, and changes only if you update it from the app.
- How long it lasts: you choose 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or no end date. A link ends when it expires, when you revoke it in the app, or when its note or your account is deleted, including by the note’s keep setting. When a link ends, our server deletes its copy. If you delete a note while you’re offline, its link ends the next time Cleriq is online and you’re signed in.
- What we know about a link: that it exists, which account made it, the app’s random ID for the note it came from, its size, and when it was made, last updated and set to expire. We don’t count views or keep anything about who opens it.
- The page it opens: it isn’t indexed by search engines, has no analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other companies. Vercel, which hosts it, keeps standard server logs of requests. These include the link’s ID, never its key.
- Reporting a link: every shared page has “Report this note”, which emails us the link’s ID. We can’t read the note, but we can delete the link.
What our server keeps
Our server stores no meeting content it can read: no audio, transcripts or summaries, in its database or in its logs. It keeps three kinds of record:
- What’s needed to count your plan’s hours: an account ID, the seconds processed, and the dates.
- One usage count: when you reopen a note, it adds one to a count for that day. Nothing about the note is sent.
- For each link you share, the locked copy of the note and the details listed under Sharing a note by link, until the link ends.
Your account
Recording never needs an account. Cleriq asks you to sign in with Apple the first time a note is processed in the cloud, not when you first open the app. We use it to keep track of your plan’s hours, even if you reinstall. There’s no password, and Cleriq asks Apple for no name and no email.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We check with the App Store that your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
This website
- If you join the waitlist, your email address is stored with Loops, our email service, so we can tell you when Cleriq is ready. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- The site’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to fetch them.
- The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.
- The site counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and doesn’t identify you: it records the page, the site that linked you here, your country, browser and device type, and whether you joined the waitlist. It can’t follow you from one day to the next or across other sites.
- The site has no advertising trackers.
Deleting your data
Delete a note in the app and it’s gone from your iPhone, and any link to it ends. To erase everything at once, open Settings in Cleriq and tap “Delete everything on this phone”: every note, recording and setting goes, every link you’ve shared ends, and it can’t be undone. Files you’ve exported, sent or saved to a folder are yours to delete where they are.
To delete your account, open Settings in Cleriq and tap “Delete account”, then sign in with Apple once more to confirm. Our server deletes your account and every record tied to it, including your sign-in, the hours you’ve used, your purchase history and your shared links, along with any recording still being processed, and it revokes Cleriq’s Sign in with Apple access. Our server keeps nothing. Your notes stay on your iPhone, and you’re signed out. Unused hours are lost, and a subscription keeps billing until you cancel it with Apple. If you can’t open the app, email us at macbethlabs@gmail.com to have your account deleted.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Cleriq handles your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
